3 - News from a little while ago (6.08.2001) reaches us from a "friend" close to our French "friends" that:

Dustin Hoffman offers his trousers for the good cause

When it is a question of making a good deed, the stars are sometimes in more ways than one, even to sell their trousers.

Thus, several stars answered the call of an association for research against the genetic diseases in children and offered their trousers so that they could be sold to bidders at the Regent Hotel in Sydney in Australia.

The trousers of Dustin Hoffman were sold for $7,800 - a tidy sum of money.

But Nikki Webster , the star of the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics , beat all the records:  her jeans were sold for more than $11,100.

Kylie Minogue and Barbra Streisand, also made gifts of their jeans.

On the whole, this charity sale made more than $116,000 dollars, all going to research to combat genetic diseases in children.

It is not known if there are more pairs of Dusty's trousers going spare for such a reasonable price.

2 - News reaches us that:

HOFFMAN DREAMS OF LIBERACE ROLE
Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman is so desperate to play gay pianist Liberace in a new movie - he's prepared to pile on weight for the role. Producers of the biopic about the flamboyant musician say they have lined-up the legendary actor for the part - although they're half-expecting Hoffman to change his mind. "Dustin Hoffman really wants to do the job. Dustin says he is prepared to gain like 30 pounds to show Liberace as he got fat late in life, but you never know with Dustin because all his career he has a history of being extremely choosy about roles which is why he makes so few movies." (NB. Is 51 films  in 38 years - 1.342 a year - really so few?) In the event Hoffman backs out of the project, Robin Williams and Nicolas Cage are reportedly contenders for the part.
- Its a tough call !

1956 - Piano virtuoso Liberace plays the guitar with Presley at the piano, in November 1956 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.

It is unknown whether Liberace was a "friend" of Dustin's but he certainly appears to have got along well with the King.

1 - It would seem that Dustin is to be a Focker after all - he's set to pair up with that other would be Focker Barbra Streisand.

The Guardian (16.01.04) reports that "Streisand and Hoffman are perfect Fockers, says Stiller: The sequel (to Meet the Parents) will see male nurse Focker and his future wife making the return visit to meet bumbling Mr Focker and his sex therapist spouse."

"Team Dustin" is aware that to all intents and purposes it remains no more than an unrealised urban myth.
Nevertheless, until this is proven otherwise it would be foolish to reject the organisation's invitations to become 'friends' - if only for the money.
